ICAN Supports Israel’s Right to Defend Against Escalating Aggression from the Islamic Republic of Iran

Los Angeles, CA – April 13, 2024 – The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) strongly supports Israel’s right to defend itself against acts of aggression. On April 1, 2024, in response to continuous threats, provocations, and coordinated attacks via proxies, Israel conducted a targeted airstrike against an Iranian security facility in Damascus. This action was a direct response to ongoing Iranian aggression and its support of terrorist activities against Israeli civilians.

On April 13, Iran dramatically escalated its attacks with direct strikes against Israel that are wholly unacceptable and highlight the ongoing threat the Islamic Republic poses not only to Israel but to international peace and security.

Key facts about the strike:

• 99% of the 300 projectiles fired by Iran were intercepted by Israeli air defenses
• Iran launched 185 drones at Israel, 100% were shot down
• Iran launched 36 cruise missiles, 100% were shot down

o   25 of the 36 cruise missiles were downed by the Israeli Air Force

• Iran fired 120 ballistic missiles at Israel

o   Some bypassed Israeli defenses and hit Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel

o   Slight damage caused to infrastructure at Nevatim Airbase

• A handful of drones and missiles launched from Iraq and Yemen, none entered Israeli airspace
